as the year draws to a close and in 22hrs time 2006 comes to and end... its still the good old year round up and resolutions post that best fits what i feel today...

review of my 2006
You And Whose Army? finally got something going on..and i am real proud of it... more to come pls..
Indus Gendi started...yes... this 1 pretty cool too... and i get to play drums..wee!!
Got a glimpse of what work in the industry is like....
I think musically i've grown quite a bit... though i dun think i've improved much skill wise on instruments...

so moving on to the new year...
i wish my coming attachment goes well and that they would actually be kind enough to give me salary so i can buy the guitar i've been gassing for...
i wish You And Whose Army? can make some substantial steps in the local scene in 2007.
i wish money would drop from the sky so i can fund my pedal gas, buy a new comp, a mac laptop and reason...
My sis' getting married in 2007...so i wish her a blissful marriage...
i will no longer be a teen for much of 2007.
i wish i can write a good number of great sounding songs this year...

yea..and to all the folks reading this post... Happy New Year!! and i hope that i have something to do tonight so that i won't have to stare at this post and think to myself why did i post it so early!!! =)

anyway... i'm looking forward to next week's recording session with indus gendi... haha...its the only thing up on my calender now... anyhow..new year's coming...and hopefully i'll have things to do...

my piano ideas can't seem to run away from the thom yorke vibe... very thom yorke again... i think its the 4th or 5th 1 already... maybe i should just embrace it instead of fighting it... cos i think the chords sound cool... and minus the fact that i listen to so much radiohead...i think it would be dam cool... haha... the new 1 sounds electronica-ish in my head...but maybe i should show the band and maybe they can make it into something different....something original... hur hur...

sad life for christmas...activity-less...

anyhow..for fans of radiohead...check out their blog..there's a link which shows a bit of their new material... cheers

i think esther just learnt a lesson on being in a band... perhaps it was a case of being too eager... a small success in myspace perhaps gave her the confidence to think that we are pretty dam good... but hopefully i didn't go down too hard on her about it... cause its not a big deal...

anyway...class gathering later and arep has a gig on saturday...who wants to go please contact me and bug me till i reply you...

listened through the Hiromi cd a couple of times already... i would say overall its a pretty good instrumental CD... i like Spiral and Old castle, by the river, in the middle of the forrest... those 2 were nice tracks... i think anyone who is into instrumental technical music should give her music a go... cause she is more than just technical...there are parts of the song that are nice in the song itself...and i seem to be able to listen to jazz shred 10x more than any prog rock or metal shred... and yea..she's pretty progressive too... so all those progressive fans should kind of like it...

hols are pretty boring...decided to stop playing Dark Ages... so days at home are filled with plenty of time to fill up... and the rain makes it very inconvenient to go out... so the usual holiday home activities are back...practise instruments, watch animes and stone...

watched the hiromi concert... it was extremely awesome!!! yes!! she was absolutely wicked... all the technicality...especially the polyrhythm parts when either the left or right hand was looping a riff and the other hand was soloing...sometimes in another time signature... left me awestruck... and she has tasteful shred... but shred aside...though the concert did bore me at periods of time...but at times the songs were great and the polyrhythm thing kept me interested... and it was great to see her rock out... haha...first time i see pianist who play jazz so rock out... bought her last CD called Spiral... live versions seem to be played much faster... yea...the bassist was pretty killer and the drummer did let go in the 2nd half of the show...

hols are here...and i am inspired to practise...hopefully this time that inspiration and drive will last... so plans for hols are to work with the metronome for drums...and maybe practise piano...haha...bleah...

I feel at ease again... thanks to Adam about the short msn talk on ideas in the band... i know what i gotta learn to do... anyhow...moving on

2 more school days left...REMT and midi... and 4 days to hiromi concert!!! wheee!!!! plans have been made to do more indus gendi recording during the holidays... and there's my sis' musical to catch... i just learnt how to play part of Love & Laughter on guitar... can't play the shred part and the punches at the end... but its real fun... got a cool blues scale lick...which i am surprised i can pull it off pretty cleanly in the song...

I suddenly am interested in the Godin Montreal...its a sort of 335ish type guitar...but its godin and i hope the price is friendly! 1 fender tele and a Godin Montreal...shouldn't need any more guitars already... haha..but slowly dream and hopefully someday $$ will pop out in front of me...

i'm in a buoyant mood today...even though i got stuck in the rain just now... anyhow..see ya!

bought hiromi tix...ahahahah!!! i am excited about it!!! in fact i can't wait to watch it!!!

You And Whose Army? jammed for the last time in 2006... worked on new material... pretty cool jamming session i must say... new John Butler-ish song... haha...emo abit but i like...seems to have worked out pretty cool... but the vibe towards the end of the jamming got abit weird for me... especially when trying out Adam's idea... i sort of felt fear...hard to explain...but anyhow...it got better after the prata session.... or at least i felt more at ease... i think i need to embrace other's ideas with a more open mind...

and there's a part of me that still desires to shred... this kind of pisses me off cause i know that unless i work many times harder than other shredders... there's no way i can shred...and even if i can shred..i dun think i'll make an outstanding 1...i should just concentrate on the other aspects of music...like the feel...phrasing and stuff... i must believe that i can show good musicianship without shredding... and yes...there are people who i can look up to who shows great musicianship without any shred... practise practise practise!!!!

Love and Laughter -Hiromi Uehara

nice easy listening jazz song with just the right amount of shred to make it work...

Saturday, December 09, 2006

got so drunk yesterday.... puked on my way home... well...i can now say i've been there and done that...and yea...not really that great...and the feeling of puking is terrible...especially the hydrochloric acid burning your throat...haha...

anyway...chanced upon this jazz pianist while looking throught the SOFT forum...she's called hiromi uehara... so i went to check out youtube to see if i can find any videos... pretty great stuff... some i dun really like...but 2 of them i really liked... i think she's quite chick corea influenced... not too sure since i dun really listen to any chick corea stuff... but yea...so now i'm thinking whether to go and watch her concert on the 17th... anyone interested?

currently enjoying the "little break"... rarely touched much guitar this week...listened to less mp3s this week..but today played a hell lot...hahahaha... december big birthday bash is here...celebrating 3 of my friends' bday tml... i wonder if anyone of them will remember mine...hur hur...

anyhow..i finally can subclass in my game...and yea..this week is cool... Remt today was fun...we made our own arrangements to a vocal track by Maia Lee... i made it Thom Yorkish...which might be the typical me at this moment... but yea...it ended up pretty cool... small girl lyrics...with cool electronica accompaniment... an effort worth being a little proud of myself...haha

Indus Gendi recorded demo...pretty pleased with the result..except that i think Then And Now needs to be mixed a bit more... "unbalanced" in my opinion...

Helped bani record his new Page demo today.... his song dam foo fighters..but nice...and he's a bloody killer musician...1 take drums...1 take bass and a few takes for the few guitar parts he had in mind... But the sound of the recorded guitar was pretty killer sia... Nic's Gibson Les Paul...together with the 3 mics miking style we used to record james' guitar track for indus gendi... result was terrific...and i tried the Geoff's phase inverse and boom to the side big guitar sound...it worked!!!! first time i try and it worked!!! happy happy happy!!!!!!

the anger has subsided and all is well in my world again... at least we got to play on friday and i think we've gave a good account of ourselves...so yea...thanks to the James, Adam and Benita for putting up a good show. And also again to all who came down to watch us.

Anyhow... gonna take You And Whose Army? slower for now..since Adam's going on holiday in the hols... its a good time to write new material... i have a cool idea in my head already..maybe for once a cool piano based song that doesn't sound too Thom Yorkish... well..i think now i'm gonna enjoy not jamming for the sake of a show... i wanna finalize the new song which has James' idea as the skeleton + some vital muscles... and hopefully finish most of the work of the new idea mentioned above before the holidays come...

anyway...who wanna go watch Muse?

Before i start bitching, i'd like to thank everyone who came down to watch us..along with doing the Yeah Baby!!!! i'm sorry we only got to play 1 song.

Ronin fucking sucks... posers!!! Spoil Radiohead song!!!! stupid piece of shit.... nv tune guitars... wrong chords.... waste time...make stupid rock star comments.... AHHH!!! fuck u all!!!! if Ronin is a role model for local bands to follow..i think Singapore should stop making music all together...

we always kena this kena cut gig things.... i think we deserve better...not saying we are some great band but yea...we're not shit and don't deserve to be treated like shit... damn...we need to get some name...

i'm pissed but i feel abit better now...
